New images of 1968 BOAC 500
I've just discovered three previously unscanned negatives from the 1968 BOAC 500 World Sports Car Championship round at Brands Hatch.
I took the pictures on the first lap, and one of them shows all three of the works Porsche 907s in line astern at Paddock hill bend.
Another has the Digby Martland/Brian Classick Chevron BMW leading a pack of cars which includes the Tony Lanfranchi/Mark Konig Nomad Mk1.
In the third picture, the Tony Dean/Mike Beckwith Ferrari Dino 206 leads the Lola T70s of Jo Bonnier/Sten Axelsson and Dave Charlton/Craig Fisher, followed by the Jackie Oliver/John Miles Lotus 47.
The race was won by Jacky Ickx and Brian Redman driving a Gulf Ford GT40.
They were just 22 seconds ahead of Ludovico Scarfiotti and Gerhard Mitter's Porsche 907 after six hours of racing and 218 laps.
Victory celebrations were muted, however, as news came in of Jim Clark's fatal crash in a Formula Two race at Hockenheim.
Ironically, Ford had wanted Jim to drive the Alan Mann F3L in the BOAC 500 but the Hockenheim commitment was finalised first.
See all of my pictures from this race here.
