1972 Super Sports 200 revisited
Several new pictures have been added to the Mike Hayward Collection of classic British motor sport images.
They include photographs from the Super Sports 200 meeting held at Silverstone in 1972.
This was the third round of the Interserie sports car championship, which was won by Leo Kinnunen driving a Team AAW Porsche 917/10.
My memories from that day include a storming drive by Willie Green in a J C Bamford Ferrari 512M who took advantage of a wet track to secure the runner-up spot.
Both Kinnunen and Green feature in this latest collection of previously unscanned images, which also includes Howden Ganley in a BRM P167, pictured right on the start and finish straight.
Other drivers include David Hepworth (BRM P154 Chevrolet 8.1), Teddy Pilette (VDS Racing Team McLaren M8E Chevrolet), Hans Wiedmer (McLaren M8E Chevrolet 8.1), Helmut Kelleners (McLaren M8F Chevrolet 8.1), Willi Kauhsen (Porsche 917/10) and Ian Richardson (McLaren Special).
