'65 Tourist Trophy

The Tourist Trophy was held at Oulton Park for the first time in 1965. A total of 37,000 spectators watched Denny Hulme win the event in a Sid Taylor Brabham BT8 from David Hobbs in a Lola T70 and David Piper in a 250LM Ferrari. John Surtees' Lola Chevrolet was fastest in practice by almost three seconds but retired in the first heat. Jim Clark's race was ended when his 5.3 litre Lotus 30 suffered gearbox failure while leading the second heat. Bruce McLaren broke the outright circuit record with a time of 1m 39secs (100.4mph) in his McLaren Elva Oldsmobile with Ferguson automatic transmission
